About Kinver Climate Action Group

Kinver Climate Action Group was set up in 2023 following the declaration of a Climate Emergency by Staffordshire, South Staffordshire and Kinver parish councils.  Declaring a Climate Emergency means recognising that we need to act, now, to halt the rise in global temperatures which is causing catastrophic changes in weather and climate. This is caused by the rise in carbon dioxide in our air, due to burning of fossil fuels. So we need to replace fossil fuel use by renewables like wind and solar power, and cut our total energy use so that renewable sources of energy are sufficient.

Our purpose in the Kinver Climate Action Group is to promote changes that reduce the extent of climate change, by community-based projects  and information sharing. Together we are helping our community to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels such as petrol, diesel, gas and aviation fuel, cut our total energy use, cut waste, and live better lives.

The knowledge to live a net-zero lifestyle already exists. As individuals, we can cut our carbon footprint drastically in many simple ways, often saving money at the same time.  The difficult bit is knowing where to start and what works best.  Our aim in the KCAG is to help the transition to a future, sustainable way of living by sharing knowledge and experience.

Members are drawn from local residents and Parish councillors. Read our consititution to learn more about how the group operates.

I have a long-standing interest in environmental issues, and have lived in Kinver most of our married life. Working with government and farmers to reduce water pollution from agriculture taught me that to create change, people need to not just understand the need, but see how to do it and gain confidence that it will work OK.  Then gradually it becomes the new normal.

I’m a retired medical consultant for the QE, and medical academic, University of Birmingham. Husband of Eunice Lord.  We have lived in Kinver for many years and our three daughters were brought up here. Tackling the causes and effects of climate change is vital to us all. What we do locally may not look important, but our ideas and actions can spread, especially by working with other local groups.

I’m a Civil Engineer, specialising in highway design and transport planning. I’ve lived in Kinver for over 30 years with my wife Fran, and we brought up our two children in this lovely place. I believe climate change is the biggest challenge we all face and although our community might only be able to make a small difference, it’s vital that we play our part.

I was raised in Kinver, and was lucky to settle back here after university. I work in publishing and part of my previous role involved creating content on renewables and energy efficient building methods for self-builders. Nature played a strong part in my upbringing, and I don’t want future generations to be robbed of a planet they can love. Joining Kinver Climate Action Group is enabling me to make something positive of my climate anxiety, while helping our community thrive.
