Thank you to those who attended Kinver Climate Action Group’s first Eco Energy Fair on 1st October 2023.

With the onset of cooler weather, and thoughts turning to cutting out energy bills, the group felt this was a great time to give villagers plenty of advice on improving their home’s efficiency and cutting energy. We hosted speakers and stalls covering everthing from quick and simple actions which save you money, all the way through to planning a full-house retrofit and prioritising what to tackle first.

So what could people find at our first Eco Energy Fair?

Free energy from the sun seems a no-brainer – but it’s an investment. No wonder one of our best attended talks was about solar energy and battery storage. Locals were also able to sign up for a solar audit of their homes, and many took the opportunity to look into this renewable further. There was also a thought-provoking talk on how the grid and our usage patterns need to change, to adapt to increasing local sustainable energy generation.

The future is electric, so we invited a local car dealership to show us their electric vehicle offering, with advice on what to look for, and choosing your EV charger. Or better still – ditch the car and bike it! Sustrans discussed how to make biking accessible for all.

Putting eco principles into practice was well demonstrated by several local businesses with inspiring products and stories; a repair cafe; and more. Vanessa from local gift shop and florist Winnie & Olive, engaged the audience with a heartfelt talk on why they have chosen to be one of a mere handful of florists using only British-grown flowers. Her accompanying floristry demonstration was a winner with visitors.

Outside, we had a demonstration of the best composting method from Rich at Vale Head Farm. And for the little ones, Wild Earth Movement brought along some autumnal crafts to show our younger visitors the free fun you can have with nature.
