In July 2024, we held our first market stall collecting electrical and electronic pieces which were ‘too good to throw away’. Working with Waste Savvy Staffs, we aimed to direct these items to where they could do most good for local people.
The response has been amazing. The wonderful people of Kinver told us time and again how they hated throwing away usable items, when someone else might need them. After each market, we’ve taken overflowing carloads to be donated or fixed, and so far only a handful of items have been judged ‘unusable’.
We now also collect redundant mobility aids – crutches, commodes, anything small enough to carry; and goods that local Care Leavers can choose when they are setting up their first independent home. Working with Grace Cares, Mediquip, and other local groups, Waste Savvy Staffs make sure anything usable is given a new life to help those in need. This means more local people can enjoy laptops; have decent kitchen equipment when they’re setting up home for the first time; or get a helping hand from the proceeds of selling checked and fixed goods.
